Uttoxeter 1st XV battled hard but unfortunately fell well short in their game against Stafford at Oldfields.
Stafford opened the scoring with a penalty which was soon cancelled out by a Ben Marshall penalty.
Stafford took th lead again with a try out wide to make the score 3 - 8 before a second Marshall penalty reduced the defecit to two points.
Stafford scored a try with a crossfield kick as the score moved to 6 - 13.
Stafford scored a further try and penalty while a 3rd Marshall penalty made the score 9 - 21 at the break.
Uttoxeter continued to battle through the second half but a number of injuries hampered any progress. Joe Gorman sufferd a broken nose, Nathan Flethcher and Tom Conlon both suffered quad injuries.
Stafford broke through and scored while Uttoxeter's Luke Bebbington was sin binned, this combined with an influx of fresh legs from Stafford's bench seem to cause Uttoxeter to crumble as they leaked tries in the final quarter.
One bright note for Uttoxeter was the introduction of 19 year old forward Conlon Newton-Taylor who made a positive impact from the bench.
Well done to Stafford Rugby Club for securing a 9-52 win.
Congratulations to Conlon Newton-Taylor, who secured Man of the Match on his 1st XV debut. The young lads are doing Uttoxeter proud this season.
For Uttoxeter 2nd XV, another win and a big thank you to Eccleshall Rugby Club 2nds for showing up today with only 10 players. Both teams shared some players about and managed to get a game going, which is what this level of rugby is all about. A comfortable 72-0 scoreline for Uttoxeter 2nds, who remain unbeaten this season. Congratulations to John Ball for getting his first game at a senior level.
Well done to Gregor Hayes who started for Staffordshire U20's on Sunday in a 36-33 defeat to Warwickshire. Impressing in the 1st XV has allowed him to get a representative cap for his county.
And our combined Uttoxeter/Leek Colts won away to Trentham, securing a 7-35 result. Uttoxeter are looking forward to their continued development as they make the step into adult rugby.
